Chief cardiologist of the Ministry of Health of the DPR, PhD Valentina Gavrilyak said on Wednesday, May 20, that while walking in the heat, the main thing is not to harm the heart and blood vessels, following simple rules to preserve health.

The doctor recommended not to appear outside at the peak of solar activity from 12 to 16 o'clock and not to be in direct sunlight for more than 15-20 minutes in a row. You should also dress in light and loose clothing made of natural fabrics, and wear a headdress on your head to avoid a sharp decrease in pressure from overheating and reduce the load on the myocardium.

Gavrilyak said that in the heat it is best to drink water at room temperature or slightly cool. And icy drinks can cause vascular spasm and throat diseases. You can drink up to 3-3.5 liters, and with intense physical exertion — even more, she added.

"It is optimal to drink in hot weather — at least 40 ml per kilogram of body weight. It is better to give up alcohol and sugary soda — they only harm the heart. Also, you should not get carried away with high—calorie fatty foods, but instead eat more vegetables and fruits," the cardiologist said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

In addition, she recommended that after the heat, do not immediately go under the cold stream of air from the air conditioner or under an icy shower, because this can cause vasospasm and overload of the heart.

In addition, she called for quitting smoking, as nicotine narrows the blood vessels of the heart. Gavrilyak also stressed that special care should be taken in the heat for people with heart disease, high blood pressure and those who have suffered a heart attack or stroke, as well as diabetics, the elderly and overweight people.

General practitioner, cardiologist Andrey Kondrakhin said on May 18 in an interview with RT that blood pressure above 140/80 is a sign of hypertension and requires treatment. According to the expert, the norm of blood pressure is considered to be 120/80. An increase to 140/80 may be a physiological response of the body to physical activity. But if the pressure consistently exceeds these values, it indicates hypertension, reports 360.ru .

Earlier, on May 17, Denis Prokofiev, a cardiologist with the status of "Moscow Doctor", warned in an interview with Izvestia that deviation from the level of normal blood pressure increases the risks of hypertensive crises, heart attacks, strokes and damage to target organs (heart, kidneys, blood vessels, eyes and brain).
