- The N. V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute performed more than 400 transplants in 2025.
In 2025, the N. V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine performed more than 400 organ transplantation operations. The institute's doctors perform all types of transplants, including complex combined interventions with simultaneous transplantation of several organs, according to the channel of Sergei Sobyanin's personal blog in the Maks messenger.
According to the mayor of Moscow, a full—fledged transplant cluster is operating in Sklifa: patients are accompanied at all stages - from preparation for surgery to follow-up.
"Such a system allows not only to perform complex operations, but also to ensure a sustainable result, providing people with a high quality of life," Sobyanin stressed.
The institute's specialists have performed more than 3,000 kidney transplants, over 1,500 liver transplants, about 150 heart transplants and more than 100 lung transplants, Sobyanin said. The facility also performs repeated lung transplants, which are considered one of the most difficult in the world of transplantation.
Sobyanin noted that the development of technology and the skill of doctors make it possible to shorten the duration of operations. Usually, a transplant lasts from three to 12 hours, but recently, the institute's specialists successfully performed a kidney transplant in 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The lung transplantation program has been developing at the Sklifosovsky Research Institute since 2011. Patients with cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary fibrosis and other serious diseases are referred to the institute. At the end of 2025, doctors performed the hundredth lung transplant. The patient has now been transferred to independent breathing.
Over the past five years, the number of transplants in Moscow has more than doubled, from 428 operations in 2020 to 859 in 2025. Currently, more than 6 thousand people with transplanted organs live in the capital.
