Employees who went to work during the May holidays will be able to receive an increased salary in May. This was announced on May 20 by Irina Shestyakova, Professor of the Department of Labor Law and Social Security Law named after K.N. Gusov of the Moscow State Law University.

"Work on a weekend or a non—working holiday is paid at least twice the amount," she told RIA Novosti.

According to the expert, the rule applies to employees on a salary, employees with hourly and piecework pay, as well as those who work on a shift schedule. Double payment is charged for the hours actually worked. Shestyakova clarified that the specific amount of payments can be fixed in a collective agreement, local acts of the company or an employment contract.

At the same time, an employee can choose an additional day of rest instead of an increased payment. In this case, the work on the holiday is paid in a single amount, and the rest day is not paid. The expert added that it is possible to involve employees in work on weekends and holidays by written order of the employer and, as a rule, with the written consent of the employee.
