Nebenzia said about the impasse in negotiations on Ukraine
The negotiation process on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is at an impasse. This was announced on May 19 by Russia's permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.
"We do not see any signals from Kiev about readiness to make substantial progress in the settlement process. The negotiation process is at an impasse," he said at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Ukraine, a broadcast of his speech was published on the Telegram channel of the Russian Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
According to him, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should order a cease-fire and withdraw Ukrainian troops from Russian territories, including Donbas. The Russian diplomat noted that until then, the Russian Armed Forces will continue to carry out the tasks of a special military operation.
In addition, Nebenzia said that US President Donald Trump "sincerely seeks" to resolve the conflict, and also criticized the position of the United Nations and Western countries on the Ukrainian issue.
He explained that the UN is "in a completely helpless state," taking, in his opinion, a biased anti-Russian position. In addition, the diplomat noted that Western countries are aware of cases of Ukrainian anti-missile missiles falling on civilian targets.
As Nebenzia stressed, despite this, Western states continue to supply weapons to Kiev and contribute to the further escalation of the conflict.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on April 27 that the pause in the peace process in Ukraine had arisen due to the fact that US attention had shifted to events around Iran. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova added on May 6 that the Russian side was ready for fruitful negotiations and was not abandoning them.
Peskov also noted on May 13 that dialogue on this issue is ongoing with representatives of the United States, which act as the only channel of communication between Moscow and Kiev. According to him, after the order of the Ukrainian leader, a cease-fire should come so that the parties can calmly engage in negotiations.
