Murashko expressed support for WHO's role in global health coordination
Russia supports the coordinating role of the World Health Organization (WHO) in global health protection. This was stated on May 19 by the head of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko at a meeting of the 79th session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva.
"We support WHO's coordinating role in global health and advocate for its strengthening," the minister said.
He noted that the Russian Federation is open to cooperation, exchange of experience and joint work in the interests of strengthening international cooperation. In addition, the existing experience of cooperation between the Union State of Russia and Belarus sets a positive example of a professional dialogue based on the principles of solidarity.
"The level of satisfaction of our citizens with the healthcare system is growing. <...> Our joint efforts lead to the development of the scientific potential of our countries and improve the overall health indicators," Murashko said.
The head of the Ministry of Health clarified that both countries are implementing a state program that ensures increased accessibility of primary health care and inpatient care, as well as modernizing the healthcare infrastructure, introducing modern technology for the treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of child mortality.
In March, Hanan Balkhi, Director of the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, said that World Health Organization staff were preparing for a scenario involving the use of nuclear weapons or an attack on a nuclear facility amid conflict in the Middle East. Balkhi noted that the organization's specialists are closely monitoring the consequences of attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities and remain hyper vigilant due to the growing threats in the region.
