Sales of new electric vehicles increased by 14% in Russia

Sales of new electric vehicles in Russia in April this year increased by 14% compared to the same month last year and reached 906 units. This was reported on May 19 by the analytical agency Autostat.

The most popular brand in the segment is Evolute, which produces electric vehicles in the Lipetsk region. During the month, 409 copies were sold in Russia, which is 45% of the market volume.

The UMO brand came in second place with a score of 184 registered copies. It is noteworthy that these electric cars, although they appeared in taxis and carsharing in Moscow, have not yet been available for free sale.

The top five brands also include Chinese Avatr (85 units), Geely (41 units) and BYD (35 units), with the latter not officially represented in Russia. Analysts noted that the Chinese brand Zeekr, which was the market leader for new electric vehicles in 2025, remained outside the top five in April.

The Evolute i-Joy (401 units) became the most popular electric car in Russia in the middle of spring. It is followed by UMO 5 (184 units), Avatr 12 and Avatr 11 (47 and 38 units respectively), as well as Geely EX5 (37 units).

In total, 3,178 new electric vehicles were sold in Russia in January –April, which is 20% more year-on-year, experts estimate.

Earlier, on May 4, it was reported that in the first quarter of 2026, Russian residents purchased 3,112 used electric vehicles. This figure was 23% higher than in the first quarter of last year. The Nissan Leaf retains the primacy among the models.
