The ex-head of the ROAD allowed Chery to leave Russia in 2026
Chery may leave the Russian market in 2026. This opinion was expressed on the 19th by the former head of the Russian Automobile Dealers Association (ROAD). Oleg Moseev.
At the same time, Russian buyers can now choose from products from more than 10 brands that refer to this Chinese concern in one way or another, he said.
"In particular, Chery will disappear as a brand this year," the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper quoted Moseev as saying.
According to the former head of the ROAD, the Exeed brand (part of the Chery concern) is still maintaining its presence, but it will also gradually begin to leave the market. Discussions are still underway on the Exlantix sub-brand, but there is no final decision: there is not much point in organizing the assembly of hybrid models in the Russian Federation, given the segment of these machines and the current sales volume, the expert shared.
Moseev explained that Chery is actively developing in Europe, where the concern sold about 150,000 vehicles last year, and one of the Jaecoo models became a bestseller in the UK in early 2026. Therefore, the Chinese concern does not want to risk sales in the European market, he added.
On May 12, the Russian AGR holding presented the first model of the new Russian brand Esteo. The mid-size crossover MX will be produced at the plant in St. Petersburg Shushary and will go on sale in the summer of 2026. The new product is based on the Exeed MX model.
At the end of April, full-cycle production of the Tenet T4L crossover was launched at the Kaluga plant. The Tenet T4L is a variation of the Chery Tiggo mid-size crossover of the seventh series, and it is also similar in size and equipment.
