More than 5,000 eco-filter plants will be planted at sewage treatment plants in Moscow this year. This was announced on Tuesday, May 19, according to the website of the Moscow City Hall.

We are talking about the aquatic hyacinth — eichornia, which will be able to purify about 100 thousand cubic meters of surface water and rainwater runoff by autumn. It is noted that the plant has been used in the capital's municipal services since 2000. In summer, it is planted in settling ponds, and in 2026 such ecoplantations will appear at 44 sites, according to the Moscow City News agency.

The message explains that eichornia is used at the final stage of purification: its powerful root system effectively removes impurities from the water, including metals and organic substances, and also improves water quality.

In summer, the plant actively grows, increasing tenfold and covering the surface of reservoirs. In autumn, it is cleaned to avoid the formation of excess silt, writes "Moscow 24".
