The expert named the number of Russians with undiagnosed diabetes
About 6 million Russians with diabetes are unaware of their diagnosis. This was announced on May 19 by Natalia Mokrysheva, Director of the National Medical Research Center for Endocrinology named after Academician I.I. Dedov of the Russian Ministry of Health during a press conference in Moscow.
"According to the results of recent epidemiological studies, almost 6 million people in Russia who are currently registered with diabetes mellitus account for half, according to our calculations, half of the army of patients with diabetes who, in principle, have this diagnosis in Russia, since half of the patients with diabetes do not even realize that they are sick."RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.
According to Mokrysheva, at the moment the main efforts of the medical community are aimed at early detection of diabetes and prevention of its complications.
In January, Medical Xpress magazine reported that diabetes remains one of the most common chronic diseases in the world, but it often develops asymptomatically in its early stages. It is clarified that the lack of timely diagnosis increases the risk of serious complications, while scientists know the key signs that may indicate the onset of the disease.
