Khusnullin announced the discussion of the Russian Federation and China's participation in the construction of a highway along the Caspian Sea

Russia is discussing the format of China's participation in the construction and financing of a highway along the Caspian Sea with access to Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. This was announced on May 19 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin during the international economic forum "Russia — the Islamic World: Kazanforum".

According to him, about 20 projects have already been selected, which have passed the expertise of the Ministry of Transport and received the conclusion of the Ministry of Economy as having an economic basis and a basis for development.

"Of course, we really want to build transport infrastructure not only with budget money, but also with extra-budgetary funds. To date, we have selected about 20 transport projects. One of such serious issues is attracting foreign investment," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Khusnullin noted that the issue of creating the Eastern automobile transport corridor is very urgent. It is assumed that the road will run along the Caspian Sea — Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and then the route will be laid to Iran with further exits to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

"During the forum, we discussed with our Chinese colleagues the possibility of not only Chinese participation in the construction, but also the possibility of raising funds. That is, we are still working on various financing options," the Deputy Prime Minister said.

During the forum, Khusnullin also noted that Russia needs to build thousands more km of high-speed roads and attract investments in transport infrastructure, taking into account the development of international transport corridors and routes connecting Russia with Mongolia, China, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Currently, about 3.7 thousand km of expressways have been built in Russia using extra-budgetary sources, while about 10 thousand km of such routes are required only within the country, he added.

Khusnullin reported on May 18 that the construction of the Dzhubga–Sochi expressway has been postponed for one to two years, but its design will continue during this period. Khusnullin added that, depending on the situation, the government may return to integrated construction, but in the current conditions, the project will be implemented in stages.
