Last year, 11,000 km of roads were built and repaired in Russia using recycled materials. This was announced on May 19 by the press service of the public law company Russian Environmental Operator (REO).

It is specified that in 2024 this figure was only 9 thousand km. In 2025, experts used more than 14 million tons of materials, which included recycled asphalt concrete, metallurgical and ash and slag materials, recycled rubber, as well as crushed stone and soils obtained from recycled raw materials.

"The use of recyclables in economic sectors is consistently growing. And the road industry is one of the most promising areas for the use of secondary resources. Thus, the length of roads built in 2025 using recycled materials has increased by more than 20%," said Irina Tarasova, General Director of the REO.

Such an initiative, as explained, allows you to save resources, as well as increase the operational characteristics of the highway surface itself. An example is the use of rubber chips from recycled car tires. The admixture of this inexpensive material makes the road almost twice as silent.

The article added that the implementation takes place within the framework of the federal project "Closed-loop Economy" of the national project "Environmental Well-being". It is attended by representatives of regional road management bodies, experts from federal government agencies subordinate to the Federal Road Agency, as well as employees of the State Company Avtodor.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin said on May 19 that the country needs thousands of kilometers of new high-speed roads. Now, as he stressed, about 3.7 thousand km of such highways have been continued, and only about 10 thousand km are needed inside the country.

On April 2, Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center, called the transport corridors offered by Russia to the world the most unique and without alternative. According to him, it is possible to easily move goods along these routes.
