Filming of the epic fairy tale "Sleeping Beauty" has started in Moscow

The SKAZKA film company has announced the start of filming of the large-scale family film Sleeping Beauty.

The classic story, familiar to everyone from childhood, will sound in a new way, and the adventures of unexpected characters will be woven into the plot, which allows you to expand its scale and make it fascinating for viewers of all ages.

"I've long wanted to film a fairy tale, it's one of my favorite genres, so this opportunity gave me the chance to present the audience with an original, author's interpretation, but with a careful attitude to the original. Of course, during the preparation, the predecessors had a huge influence on the creation of the magical world of fairy tales — I reviewed everything I grew up on: starting from the Russian classics directed by Alexander Ptushko, Alexander Rowe and Leonid Nechaev and ending with Disney films and films by Tim Burton and Guillermo del Toro," said director Anario Mammadov.

The plot of the film revolves around Princess Lyubava, the spoiled daughter of Tsar Elizar. The heroine meets a young man, Ivan, who charms and captivates her with his charm. At the same time, the Shamakhi Queen appears in the kingdom, a mysterious and dangerous woman whose beauty is supported by the power of a magical mirror. After Lyubava's disappearance, Ivan goes in search of her and finds himself embroiled in a dangerous journey where reality is intertwined with the world of dreams. There, the characters will have to go through difficulties, open their hearts and gain the courage to face their fears. What will they have to do to get out of the world of dreams and preserve their nascent feelings?

A special feature of the film will be a striking acting ensemble — Nastasia Samburskaya will try on a fairy tale image for the first time, and Yuri Kolokolnikov will embody a fantasy image and immerse the viewer in an acting performance. The creative team also notes the magnificent tandem that was noticed from the very first samples: Alexey Onezhen and Vitaly Kornienko as the main characters. There is also a gift for fans of improvisational shows — Arseny Popov will play in a big epic tale for the big screen for the first time. Anastasia Talyzina, Evgenia Dmitrieva, Nodar Dzhanelidze and others will take part in the film. The creators note that original characters will appear in the fairy-tale universe, which will come to life on the screen using CGI.

A special scale and visual effect are given to the film by specially created decorations of the fairy-tale kingdom and the world of sleep, thought out in every detail of the interior, as well as nature shots that will touch the viewer with picturesque locations. The main focus will be not only on computer graphics, but also on "analog" techniques and tricks in the spirit of classical cinema. The magical and dynamic adventure of the Sleeping Beauty movie will allow the viewer to fully immerse themselves in a unique fairy-tale world.

The film is directed by Anario Mammadov ("The Last Axel", "Son-in-law", "My Favorite Ghost"). The producers are Mikhail Pogosov and Julietta Pogosova. The production is carried out by the Skazka film company and the Berg Sound studio with the support of Art Pictures Distribution. The distributor is NMG Film Distribution, an exclusive distributor of digital and television rights, as well as a foreign distributor, Art Pictures Distribution (part of the National Media Group holding). The theatrical release is scheduled for 2027.
