The Baltic states, if they had been bolder and more determined, would have used the NATO article on collective defense against Ukraine due to violations of their airspace. This was announced on May 19 by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council.

"If there were more, they should have suggested something else: to apply Article 5 of the Washington Treaty against the country 404 (Ukraine — Ed.) in connection with the attack on their "Baltic extinctions," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

The deputy Chairman of the Security Council thus commented on the recent statement by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, who called for putting pressure on Russia instead of entering into negotiations with it.

Earlier in the day, Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) reported that Ukraine plans to launch unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from the Baltic states, demonstrating its "combat capability" to the West. According to the ministry, military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's unmanned systems have already been sent to Latvia. The SVR pointed out that the Kiev regime aims by all means to demonstrate to its patrons in Europe the preservation of the "combat potential of the Armed Forces of Ukraine" and their ability to damage the Russian economy.

Former Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silin announced her resignation on May 14 amid a government crisis. Initially, it was expected that the head of government would make a statement in parliament, but instead, Xilin called a special press conference in the cabinet building. The reason for the political crisis was the resignation of Defense Minister Andris Sprouds after the drone incident on May 7. After Sprouds' departure, the political partners of the ruling coalition announced that they no longer trusted the Prime Minister, which led to her resignation.
