The Thai authorities have decided to reduce the 60-day visa-free regime for citizens of more than 90 countries and return to the rules of entry for stays of up to 30 days. This was reported by the Khaosod newspaper on May 19.

It is noted that the relevant decision was made by the Cabinet of Ministers of Thailand. At the same time, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Surasak Pancharenvorakul, noted that Russia is also on the list of countries for which entry conditions may change.

According to him, the new parameters will be reviewed by the Thai Visa Policy Committee. The authorities of the Kingdom will assess the situation in each country separately, "taking into account security issues and economic interests."

Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeu said on May 12 that the authorities intend to strengthen immigration control and reduce the period of visa-free stay of foreign tourists to 30 days. Checks on incoming foreigners will also be strengthened to ensure that the purpose of the trip meets the conditions of the visas issued.

For the first time, discussions about reducing visa-free stay in Thailand for tourists from 93 countries were reported in February. Natthria Thawiwong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, said the change should not affect tourism, as tourists in Thailand do not stay more than 21 days on average.
