Representatives of the administration of US President Donald Trump are inclined to implement a possible military scenario on the territory of Cuba after their sanctions against the republic proved ineffective. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on May 18, citing a number of sources.

"Now the issue of military action is on the agenda like never before," said one of the interlocutors of the publication.

Such a step, according to unnamed American officials, approached after they became disillusioned with the failure of the economic and oil blockade of Cuba. Washington realized that Cuban politicians were able to normalize the situation in their country with the help of sound reforms, and now his "mood has definitely changed."

It is clarified that the military measures being discussed against Havana imply several options. The first is the abduction of "one or two" people from the government, the second is a single "intimidating airstrike," and the third is a full-fledged invasion of the country.

The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier stated its right to respond in the event of a potential attack. Such defense, as specified in the department, will be legal.
