New textbooks on social studies will be introduced in Russia starting next academic year.

Starting from September 1, 2026, Russian 9th-10th grade students will study using new social studies textbooks. This was announced on May 18 by Vladislav Kononov, the assistant to the Office of the President of the Russian Federation for State Policy in the humanitarian sphere, executive secretary of the unified line of textbooks on history and social studies.

"Since September 1 of this year, grades 9-10 are switching to new state textbooks of social studies, the 11th grade continues to study the old course for the last year," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Kononov noted that new textbooks for 11th grades will be introduced on September 1, 2027.

Students in grades 9-11 trust their teacher more, but they use neural networks more often when preparing for exams.

On May 10, the press service of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation reported that the ministry had approved the concept of historical education, which would cover kindergartens, schools, colleges and universities in the country. It is noted that the regulations establish the main mechanisms for the formation of an all-Russian civic identity among young people.
