Court in Spain acquitted Shakira in tax fraud case
A court in Spain has acquitted Colombian singer Shakira in a tax fraud case and lifted a fine of more than €55 million, which the country's tax authority imposed in 2021. This was reported on May 18 by the Reuters news agency, citing a court document.
"The judge ruled that the authorities could not prove that Shakira spent more than 183 days in Spain in 2011, as required by Spanish law to recognize her as a tax resident of the country. This does not apply to the tax years after 2011," the publication says.
It is noted that the court considered the singer's appeal and ordered the Treasury to return more than €60 million to her, including interest.
On May 6, American entrepreneur Elon Musk announced that he pays more taxes than anyone in history — more than $10 billion a year. If Musk implements and sells stock options, the combined federal and state income tax will be approximately 45%.
