Nordic walking is one of the most underrated types of physical activity. Pavel Megey, a physical therapist at the Three Sisters Early Rehabilitation Clinic, told about this on Monday, May 18.

According to the expert, the shoulder girdle, arms, back muscles and deep muscles of the body actively work with Scandinavian walking. Due to this, the load is distributed more evenly, and the motor activity itself becomes physiologically more complete. From the point of view of biomechanics, the number of muscle groups involved and the overall level of energy consumption increases compared to normal walking at the same pace, he told the Mail Health.

Therefore, Nordic walking is often considered as a more effective aerobic exercise option for people who are contraindicated in more intense activities, such as running.

The specialist noted that the additional involvement of the muscles of the upper half of the body enhances the metabolic response of the body, which makes this type of exercise useful in weight loss programs and improving overall fitness. In addition, regular exercise gradually increases the overall endurance and adaptive capacity of the body.

An important effect of Nordic walking from a cardiological point of view is to improve blood circulation.

Megei added that this type of walking is valuable because it reduces the axial load on the joints of the lower extremities and the spine. Using sticks redistributes part of the body weight to the arms, reducing mechanical pressure on the knee and hip joints. This makes the method useful in degenerative diseases of the joints and spine, as well as in chronic pain syndromes associated with an overload of the musculoskeletal system.

In addition, the sticks serve as additional support points for elderly patients, increasing stability when moving and reducing the likelihood of loss of balance. This makes walking safer.

Nordic walking is a universal and physiologically based type of activity that combines cardiorespiratory training, reducing stress on the musculoskeletal system and improving coordination. It is this combination that makes it in demand both in preventive medicine and in rehabilitation programs, the specialist concluded.

Earlier, on May 4, cardiologist Behruzi Fayzali told in an interview with Life.Ru how to start a workout without harming your health. He stressed that you need to start smoothly, preferring safer activities: Nordic walking, swimming, yoga and stretching, followed by light running. 360.ru .

In February, Andrey Kuznetsov, a physiotherapist at the Medical Research and Rehabilitation Center of the Russian Ministry of Health, spoke about bad habits and the prevention of joint problems after the age of 40. The specialist noted that excess weight remains the main enemy of joints: each additional kilogram increases the load, especially on the legs.
