Lavrov and Tajik Foreign Minister discussed strengthening strategic partnership
At a meeting in Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Tajik counterpart Sirodjiddin Muhriddin confirmed their mutual commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries. This was stated on May 18 in a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The conversation between the foreign ministers confirmed their mutual commitment to further joint practical steps to strengthen the strategic partnership and cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan in accordance with the agreements reached by the presidents of the two states," the ministry's website says.
The ministers discussed a number of aspects of Russian-Tajik relations, as well as recent commemorative ceremonies. During them, the Tajik delegation in Moscow was given a capsule with earth from a common grave at the Donskoy cemetery in the capital, where the remains of national heroes of Tajikistan are buried, and in the city of Kulyab in the Khatlon region of Tajikistan, capsules with earth from the burial site of Soviet military commander, Civil War hero Nikolai Tomin, were entrusted to the Russian side.
"The mentioned ceremonies have become another vivid evidence of the commitment of our countries to the preservation of historical truth, which contributes to strengthening the bonds of centuries—old friendship between the Russian and Tajik peoples," the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.
On April 28, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov said that Russian-Tajik military cooperation has great potential and importance in ensuring the security of the Central Asian region. According to him, the Russian Ministry of Defense is assisting in equipping and developing the Armed Forces of Tajikistan, sharing its combat experience.
