Flights from Primorye to China will increase to 70 per week
The authorities of Primorsky Krai will increase the number of flights from the region to Chinese cities to 70 per week. Oleg Kozhemyako, Governor of Primorye, announced similar plans at a meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Chinese Commission for Cooperation and Development of the Far East and Northeast of China in Harbin.
According to him, quoted by PrimaMedia news agency, the introduction of a visa-free regime between Russia and China contributed to the development of bilateral tourism ties. In 2025, 344 thousand tourists from China visited the region. Currently, 50 flights a week depart from Primorye to China. In the summer, it is planned to increase their number to 70. New routes are currently being worked out.
Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev, who also participated in the meeting, supported the initiative to increase the frequency of existing flights and create new direct flights. This is necessary to increase the number of tourists and expand contacts, he noted.
The agency notes that the administration of Phuket Province in Thailand intends to conclude a sister city agreement with Vladivostok. According to the draft document, cooperation between the regions should reach a new level.
At the end of May, the head of the Ministry of Transport, Andrei Nikitin, said that Russia expects in the near future to return passenger traffic with China to the low—key figures of 2.9 million people. This will bring countries closer to the introduction of a permanent visa-free regime and will become a driver for the development of tourism infrastructure in Russian regions, experts say. The increase in traffic is also associated with the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, as travelers began to use China more often as a transit hub for trips to other countries, the Russian Union of Travel Industry said.
