Filming of the thriller "Yugoslavia" has started

Filming of the large-scale series "Yugoslavia" has begun, combining a geopolitical thriller and an action spy drama. "Yugoslavia" is a series from the team of creators of such hits as "GDR" and "Lilies of the Valley".

The end of the 1990s. While NATO is preparing an operation against Yugoslavia, Maxim, a Russian military intelligence officer, finds himself in the middle of a dangerous game in which any mistake can cost his life, and even those who are nearby cannot be trusted. Maxim is being hunted by a cold-blooded, calculating and professional CIA officer, Nathan Crowley. The closer they get to each other, the more their confrontation turns into a personal duel, where not just the successful completion of the task, but their lives are at stake. Against the backdrop of a rapidly approaching war, Maxim meets a Belgrade journalist, Zorica, who has her own secrets and her own personal battle. This is a large-scale spy thriller about the events that changed the world at the end of the 20th century. Belgrade, Brussels, Kosovo, Moscow, secret negotiations of world leaders, special operations and betrayals, behind which lies the fate of both Yugoslavia and Russia. This is a story about a time when geopolitics finally ceased to be something abstract. The heroes are unaware that the consequences of their actions will determine the face of the entire 21st century.

"Yugoslavia" is a story about how a local military conflict in the Balkans brought down the old world order. This is a series about people who find themselves in a situation in which the truth has become a weapon of no less power than missiles and machine guns. It is no coincidence that these events are being addressed today: after more than two decades, the world is once again experiencing a catastrophe of unimaginable proportions. Understanding the seemingly recent past can help in understanding the present.

The filming of the series will take place in several stages. The first block was launched in May in Moscow and the Moscow region. The creators of the project rely on rare, complex and unusual locations to recreate the atmosphere of Europe in the late 1990s and show the events of the Yugoslav crisis with maximum historical and visual authenticity.

"I am deeply passionate about history and have always sought to understand the fates of the people behind key historical decisions. For me, it is the person who is at the center of any event — his choices, doubts, responsibility. That's why the topic of Yugoslavia is especially important to me. In my project, I wanted to convey the drama of how the story goes through the life of a particular person," said Director of Photography Mikhail Morskov.

The series is being produced for Wink and NTV by World Russian Studios and NMG Studio with the support of the Institute for Internet Development (ANO IRI). The director is Mikhail Morskov ("Mutiny", "The Eternal Life of Alexander Khristoforov", "My Dog is an astronaut", etc.), the director of photography is Gaik Kirakosyan ("Lilies of the Valley", "GDR", "My Dog is an astronaut", etc.). The main roles are played by Vasily Kopeikin, Nika Zdorik and Yuri Chursin. The project also stars Igor Gordin, Gela Meskhi, Daniil Spivakovsky and others.
