Lavrov wished success in the negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Iran
Russia is not trying to get involved in the negotiation process between the United States and Iran and wishes it success. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference on May 18 after talks with his counterpart from Equatorial Guinea, Simeon Oyono Esono Angue.
"We are not trying to get involved in this negotiation process. We wish him, this process, success," he said.
Thus, Lavrov responded to a request to comment on information about the alleged negotiations on leaving only one nuclear facility on the territory of the Islamic Republic. The Russian Foreign Minister said that Russia considers Iran's right to use peaceful atomic energy to be indisputable, but all additional conditions should be decided by the negotiators.
The newspaper Turkiye Today reported on the eve that the United States and Iran, through intermediaries, exchanged conditions for continuing negotiations to resolve the conflict after the ceasefire. The publication reports that the United States, among other conditions, demanded that Iran refuse to pay any compensation, transfer 400 kg of highly enriched uranium to the United States and maintain the operation of only one nuclear facility in Iran.
On April 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that countries that comply with the provisions of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) have the right to use peaceful nuclear energy. Putin said in the same statement that Russia expects the NPT conference to be productive and contribute to the nuclear non-proliferation regime.
