Allowing gymnasts from Russia to compete with the flag and anthem will have a positive impact on their performances. This was stated by Russian and Azerbaijani gymnast, two-time Olympic bronze medalist and Honored Master of Sports of Russia Anna Pavlova in an interview with Izvestia on May 18.

"I am very glad that our athletes have now started to be admitted. I would like it to remain in its normal form. It is very pleasant that they will [perform] with a flag and an anthem," she noted.

According to her, the restrictions impose a certain burden on athletes — the lack of full support from the audience and the not very good attitude of colleagues make it difficult to achieve high results.

"It's a psychological pressure. And here (when the restrictions are lifted. — Ed.) they will already do their job," she added.

On May 18, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) allowed Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments with a flag and anthem. The solution applies to athletic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline jumping, athletic acrobatics, and athletic aerobics.
