A list of the main sites for celebrating Eid al-Adha in Moscow has been published
Eid al-Adha is one of the main holidays in Islam, which is celebrated annually by Muslims around the world. The feast of sacrifice, also known as Eid al-Adha, is associated with the end of the Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca) and symbolizes devotion to God, mercy and help to those in need. In 2026, Eid al-Adha will come on the evening of May 26, and the main festive events will be held on May 27. Details can be found in the Izvestia article.
Opening hours of mosques in Moscow and St. Petersburg for Eid al-Adha 2026
In Moscow, the Moscow Cathedral Mosque on Mira Avenue traditionally becomes the central venue for the celebration. Festive prayers will also be held at the Historical Mosque of Moscow, the memorial mosque "Shukhada" on Poklonnaya Gora and the mosque "Yardyam" on Khachaturian Street. The festive Eid prayer will begin at 07:00 Moscow time.
In previous years, tens of thousands of believers came to the Moscow Cathedral Mosque for Eid al-Adha. According to the Muslim Spiritual Board, about 250,000 people took part in the celebrations in Moscow in 2025.
Residents of the capital are advised to arrive for the festive prayer in advance, use public transport and take into account possible traffic restrictions near mosques. On the day of the holiday, some streets near the places of worship may be temporarily closed.
In addition, on June 6 and 7, the capital will host the large-scale Kurban FEST family festival, organized by the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Russia and the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Moscow with the support of the Safmar Charitable Foundation. The guests will enjoy quests, lectures by Islamic theologians, an open workshop tournament and a fair of Islamic goods. A special play area will be organized for children, and Muscovites will be able to taste traditional dishes of the Muslim peoples of Russia and the world on the food court.
In St. Petersburg, the St. Petersburg Cathedral Mosque remains the main venue for festive events. An early festive prayer is also expected here, after which believers will be able to take part in festive events and rituals. In previous years, the area near the mosque and the surrounding streets were filled with believers before dawn, so parishioners are advised to plan their route in advance.
In previous years, worship services were also held at the mosque on Repishchev Street and the prayer house on Moskovsky Prospekt.
The Spiritual Board of Muslims of St. Petersburg and the North-Western region of Russia called on believers to take a responsible approach to participating in the festive divine service. Eid prayer will take place on Wednesday, May 27. The prayer is scheduled to begin at 07:30 a.m. Muslims are advised to perform ablution in advance and arrive at the mosque already in a state of ritual purity.
Believers are also advised to prepare prayer mats in advance, plan a route to mosques and prayer houses, and take into account possible traffic congestion in the morning. The need to observe public order, maintain cleanliness and treat others with respect during festive events is emphasized separately.
Eid al-Adha sacrifice sites in Moscow
One of the main traditions of Eid al-Adha remains the rite of sacrifice. According to Islamic norms, it is necessary to perform it in specially equipped places that meet sanitary and veterinary requirements. The Moscow authorities annually remind that it is forbidden to carry out sacrifice in the courtyards of residential buildings, on the streets or in unauthorized places.
In the territory of Moscow in 2026 there will be no to organize official sites for sacrifices during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha. At the same time, believers will be able to perform a ritual at one of the Moscow region sites. The slaughter will take place in:
- Mytishchi on the territory of the Koybar livestock farm in the village of Borodino;
- Chekhov on the territory of an eco-farm in the village of Venyukovo (ownership of 10 p. 1), as well as at the addresses of the village of Chepelevo, 65 Tsentralnaya St. and the village of Stolbovaya, Mira St., vl. 16;
- Domodedovo on the territory of the meat processing plant "Myasnoy Dvor" in the village of Yam, on a farm in the village of Starosyanovo (4), and at a slaughterhouse in the village of Kupchinino;
- Kolomna on the territory of a farm in the village of Gorodets;
- Shchelkov on the territory of the farm "Psarki" in the working village of Monino and on the territory of the SEC "Romashka" in the village of Bolshye Zherebtsy;
- Kupavne at 77 Michurina St.;
- Ramenskoye in the village of Zakharikha at 57 Staromoskovskaya Street.
Veterinary services, Rospotrebnadzor specialists and law enforcement officers work at the sites. Parking, waiting areas and meat cutting areas are organized for visitors.
In addition, the practice of remote sacrifice has been gaining popularity in recent years. Believers can pay for the ceremony online through Islamic charities or specialized services, after which the meat is given to families in need and the poor. Similar projects are actively developing in the CIS countries and Muslim regions.
Sacrificial sites in St. Petersburg
There will be no official sites for sacrifices in St. Petersburg, as it is forbidden to hold the ceremony within the city limits. Traditionally, slaughter sites are located in the Leningrad region outside of dense residential buildings — on the territories of farms, meat processing enterprises and specialized complexes. To ensure sanitary safety, all facilities are subject to preliminary inspection.
The exact list of addresses for 2026 will be published closer to the holiday after coordination with the city authorities and veterinary services. Representatives of Muslim organizations annually emphasize that performing the ceremony in public places or in courtyards of residential buildings is unacceptable. Violation of sanitary requirements may result in administrative liability.
It is expected that online sacrifice services will also be available in St. Petersburg in 2026 through Islamic charities and religious organizations. This format became especially in demand after the pandemic and continues to be used by believers who cannot personally attend the site.
Earlier, Imam Jalil Mustafin told Izvestia what not to do on the Eid al-Adha holiday.
