About 30 thousand people were evacuated in Germany due to a World War II bomb.
About 27-30 thousand people have to leave their homes in Pforzheim, northwest of Stuttgart (federal state of Baden-Württemberg) in southwestern Germany, due to the discovery of a bomb from World War II. The city administration announced this on its website on May 15.
"Evacuation within a radius of about 1.5 km is scheduled for Sunday morning, May 17th. All residents must leave the danger zone by 8:00 a.m. <...> The evacuation will affect a significant part of the city center, as well as about 27,000 residents," the report said.
During construction work in the Oststadt quarter park, an aerial bomb from the Second World War weighing about 1.8 tons was discovered, of which 1.35 tons is a warhead. It is reported that there is no danger to the population until the moment of direct demining. Units of the fire service, the police and a group of sappers are working on the site.
On April 29, 2025, workers discovered a 100 kg World War II-era aerial bomb at a construction site in the Czech village of Oldříšov. Because of this, 200 residents had to be evacuated. The sappers examined the object, after which they reported that it could be defused. Later, the residents were allowed to return to their homes.
