- Weidel compared the attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Russian Federation with thrusting a red-hot iron into a bear
The attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the territory of Russia are a threat to the national security of Germany. This was stated on May 17 by Alice Weidel, co-chairman and leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
"You can't constantly poke a bear in the eyes with a red—hot iron — for example, by drone strikes deep into Russia - and expect nothing to happen. In the end, the bear will fight back, and the policy towards Ukraine has increased the risk to our security," she said.
Weidel added that the AFD's policy, if the party comes to power, will be based on minimizing unnecessary risks and finding the optimal balance between national and foreign policy interests.
Finnish politician Armando Mema, a member of the Freedom Alliance party, said on May 6 that the European Union (EU) is directly financing state terrorism against the civilian population of Russia by supplying Ukraine with medium- and long-range drones (UAVs). According to him, the number of drone attacks on Russian territory has increased over the past two weeks due to increased supplies from European countries.
On May 12, the head of the Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, called on the German leadership to "moderate their ardor" about joint plans for military production with Ukraine against the background of a visit to Kiev by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius to discuss arms production. According to the politician, such initiatives will not bring anything good to both Ukraine and Germany.
