Senator Pushkov pointed to Stubb's fear of being "eaten" at the negotiating table
Finnish President Alexander Stubb is afraid that he will be "eaten" at the negotiating table. This was stated on May 17 by Senator Alexei Pushkov, commenting on an interview with the Finnish president.
"Does someone really want to eat Alexander Stubb? <...> In other words, Europe does not want to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, it does not want this, but is afraid to stay away from the solution, that is, "to be eaten," the senator wrote in his Telegram channel.
Pushkov also compared Stubb's reasoning with the image of Dr. Lecter from the movie "The Silence of the Lambs." According to him, this character also loved "cannibalistic analogies."
On May 15, political analyst Vladimir Olenchenko explained Europe's desire to engage in dialogue with Russia for fear of "falling behind the train." He noted that Europe seeks either to benefit or to present a possible agreement as its own achievement. According to him, an additional motive is the growth of internal contradictions between the countries against the background of a difficult economic situation.
Alexander Stubb, in an interview with the Corriere della Sera newspaper on May 11, said that Europe should start direct negotiations with Russia because US policy does not meet European interests. According to Stubb, the participants in the future dialogue have not yet determined the format of contacts — Europe may send one special envoy or a group of leaders.
