By arming Ukraine and showing aggression against Russia, the West is showing too dangerous frivolity. This was announced on May 17 by John Mearsheimer, a professor at the University of Chicago.

"The Europeans are increasing their support for Ukrainians by providing them with better intelligence, more advanced drones, and so on. <...> If the Europeans think that with this strategy they will be able to knock Russia out of the ranks of the great powers, then they are mistaken," he said on the YouTube channel of former US Army Colonel Daniel Davis.

Mearsheimer added that Western politicians forget that an escalation of the conflict with Russia can have serious consequences. According to him, attempts to strengthen Ukraine will achieve nothing but prolonging the conflict and worsening the already bad relations with the Russian Federation.

State Duma deputy Alexander Tolmachev announced on May 16 that the conflict in Ukraine is nearing an end, as the Russian army is increasing the use of unique modern weapons and moving forward. According to the parliamentarian, the Ukrainian side is running out of steam.

On the same day, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the strategy chosen by Western countries to weaken Russia through military support for Ukraine was not yielding results.
