Slovenia defeated the Czech Republic at the Hockey World Cup
On May 16, the Slovenian national team defeated the Czech Republic in the group stage match of the Ice Hockey World Cup, which is being held in Switzerland. The meeting in Fribourg ended in overtime with the score 3:2 (1:0, 0:2, 1:0, 1:0) in favor of the Slovenian national team.
Matic Torok (10th minute), Ange Kuralt (49th) and Marcel Makhkovets (62nd) scored goals for the winners. Martin Kaut (25) and Lukas Sedlak (38) scored for the Czech national team, Sport-Express reports.
The Slovenian national team won the tournament for the first time and had never beaten the Czechs before. In the next match, the Slovenes will play against the Norwegian team, and the Czech national team will face the Swedish national team.
The Swiss national team defeated the U.S. national team in the group stage match of the 2026 IIHF World Championship with a score of 3.:1. Pius Suter and Sven Andrighetto scored 2 (1+1) points apiece for the hosts, and Ken Jaeger scored another goal. Alex Steves scored the only goal for the U.S. national team.
