The doctor talked about the safe use of the conditioner
In summer, many people face the same problem: after staying indoors with air conditioning, they get a runny nose, stuffy nose or ears, sore throat, and sometimes even neck or back pain. On May 16, Yana Novikova, an otorhinolaryngologist at the Be Healthy Clinic in St. Petersburg, spoke about ways to avoid these troubles.
"First, it is important to maintain a moderate temperature regime. It is comfortable and safe when the difference between the street and the room does not exceed 5-7 degrees, and in the room about 23-25 ° C. The second rule is not to sit in a direct stream of air. It is better to put the flow direction up or to the side, rather than on the face, neck or back," she told reporters. "Газета.Ru ".
The third rule is to monitor the humidity of the air. Air conditioning makes the air drier, so it's worth additionally humidifying the room, for example, using a humidifier or simply placing open containers with water, and also do not forget to drink enough liquid during the day. Fourth, it is important to regularly clean and maintain the air conditioning system. And finally, the fifth thing is to take breaks from the air conditioner, turn it off periodically and ventilate the room. This is especially important in offices and cars where there are many people in a limited space.
The main danger is a sharp temperature drop, Novikova noted. Frequent transitions from heat to a strongly cooled room create stress for the body and disrupt thermoregulation.
"With a large temperature difference, it is easier for people with chronic diseases and weakened immune systems to "catch" viruses already circulating in the team. The air conditioner itself is not a source of infection, but it changes the air parameters and adds strain to the body. The air conditioner creates conditions in which the nasal and pharyngeal mucosa becomes more vulnerable: over—dried and cold air reduces the effectiveness of local protection, and dirty filters can cause serious problems," the doctor noted.
Denis Prokofiev, a general practitioner with the status of "Moscow Doctor," said on May 16 that meningitis can be primary and secondary. In the primary case, the pathogen affects only the meninges without previous infectious diseases in other organs, and the secondary one develops against the background of other diseases as a complication of the infectious process.
