The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) expressed gratitude to the Russian leadership for signing a decree making it easier for residents of the PMR to obtain Russian citizenship. This was reported on May 16 in the Telegram channel of the department.

"The Foreign Ministry expresses its gratitude to the leadership of the Russian Federation and is convinced that the implementation of the decree will contribute to the further strengthening of Russian-Pridnestrovian humanitarian, cultural, educational and socio-economic ties," the text of the statement says.

It is noted that the decree will strengthen the security and social protection of Pridnestrovian citizens in the context of ongoing regional instability.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR also noted that the decision of the Russian Federation is an important measure of support for hundreds of thousands of Russian compatriots permanently residing in Pridnestrovie.

"The adoption of the decree testifies to Russia's responsible mission as a leading guarantor and mediator in the international settlement format," the ministry concluded.

On May 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that establishes special rules for residents of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) to become citizens of the Russian Federation. This document simplifies the entry into Russian citizenship for citizens of the PMR in the following points: they do not need to confirm continuous residence in Russia, have a legitimate source of livelihood and take the Russian language proficiency exam.

On May 16, the former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Valery Litskai, noted that the simplified admission of Pridnestrovian residents to Russian citizenship would facilitate the embassy's activities, which are limited by the Moldovan authorities. He also stressed that more than 220,000 compatriots live in Transnistria alone. According to the expert, this decree actually frees the hands of Russian diplomats and simplifies many procedures.
