Reuters on FIFA's discussion with Iran on the country's national team's participation in the World Cup

The Secretary General of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Matthias Grafstrom, will hold a meeting in Istanbul with representatives of the Iranian Football Federation on the participation of the national team in the World Cup. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on May 16.

According to the agency, the parties will discuss security guarantees for Iranian football players amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington.

According to Reuters, Grafstrom intends to offer the Iranian side additional guarantees for participation in the tournament, which will be held from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

In the group stage, Iran's national team is scheduled to play against New Zealand and Belgium in Inglewood, California, and also face Egypt in Seattle.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced at the organization's congress in Vancouver, Canada, on April 30 that the Iranian national football team will participate in the 2026 World Cup and will play its matches in the United States.
