- Reuters has learned the reason for the deviation from the course of the Ukrainian BEC off the coast of Greece
Discovered last week off the coast of Greece, a Ukrainian unmanned boat (BEC) could have gone off course due to a technical malfunction. This was reported on May 15 by the Reuters news agency, citing sources.
"A source in the security services said that the device probably missed its target, having lost its orientation due to a technical malfunction," the publication says.
It is noted that a boat packed with explosives was discovered by fishermen on the shores of Greek Lefkada on May 7. The incident has caused tension in relations between Kiev and Athens. At the same time, it is reported that Ukraine officially rejects that the marine drone belongs to it.
The leader of the Greek parliamentary party "Greek Solution" Kyriakos Velopoulos said that the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky "has never been a friend of Greece" because of the incident with the drone. The Greek authorities are currently considering several versions of the drone's use, including possible involvement in drug trafficking.
On May 11, the Greek authorities launched an investigation after they discovered a back loaded with explosives that had strayed from the course. Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias is confident that the drone is of foreign origin.
