Veteran Suvorov laid flowers at the monument to motorcycle scouts in Yekaterinburg

Dmitry Nikolaevich Suvorov, a retired colonel, a legendary intelligence officer who was the first to break into Minsk on a motorcycle during the liberation operation, laid flowers at the monument to motorcycle scouts in Yekaterinburg on his 100th birthday with military police officers of the Central Military District. This was announced on May 16 by the Russian Defense Ministry.

Last time, Dmitry Suvorov promised to visit the monument to motorcycle scouts again on the day of his 100th birthday and kept his word. Together with the military police of the Central Military District, he laid flowers at the memorial complex.

"Dmitry Nikolaevich and I have known each other for more than four years. We try to see him every month, invite him to visit, and organize various kinds of excursions for him. Dmitry Nikolaevich is currently trying very hard to just enjoy his life. "To live well and life is good!" is his motto," said Ruslan Akhmadishin, military commander of Yekaterinburg.

On the same day, an event was held in the Central Military District Officers' House in honor of the veteran, where they also presented a book based on his memoirs about childhood, everyday life at the front and the post-war years. It is noted that hundreds of people came to congratulate Dmitry Suvorov.

"The liberation of Minsk, as they say, will not go anywhere. Because I burst into Minsk at full speed, with a burst of machine-gun fire. <...> The Germans were already paralyzed mentally and fled. Minsk was under the Germans for three years and [the liberation of Minsk] was a great joyous event," Dmitry Nikolaevich shared.

Dmitry Nikolaevich Suvorov was born on May 15, 1926 in the Kostroma region. In 1943, he was drafted into the Red Army, and after training, he became a scout for the 4th Guards Tank Brigade of the 3rd Belorussian Front.

During the operation to liberate Minsk, Dmitry Nikolaevich discovered a safe way into the city, which allowed Soviet units to be the first to enter it. For this feat, he was awarded the title of "guardsman".

The retired colonel was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree, the Order of the Red Star, medals "For Bravery", "For Military Merit", "For the capture of Konigsberg", "For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945", as well as jubilee medals.

On May 9, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that in Tver, military personnel of the Tver garrison, cadets of the Military Academy of Aerospace Defense named after Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov, yunarmeyts and representatives of the regional government congratulated the veteran of the Great Patriotic War (WWII), military navigator Peter Potemkin.
