Europe may face a shortage of medicines due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz amid the escalation of the situation around Iran. This was reported by the La Tribune newspaper on May 15.

It is specified that the supply of components for the pharmaceutical industry depends on China and India for 80%. In these countries, the manufacturing sector has also been destabilized due to higher energy prices due to the blockade of Hormuz.

"There are other delivery options, but their cost is higher, and the supply chains of some substances are so complex that this can gradually lead to shortages," says Denise Yunal, a representative of the CEPII Center for Economic Research.
