The tragedy occurred on October 11, 2025, on the Angara River near the village of Listvyanka. According to the investigation, the drunk driver of the boat did not choose a safe speed, as a result of which he crashed into an oncoming vessel and then into the shore.
"As a result of the violations committed by this citizen of the requirements of the rules for the use of small vessels and the rules of navigation of vessels on inland waterways, three passengers were injured, resulting in their death," the report says.

The man will be tried under Part 4 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of traffic safety and operation of inland waterway transport, committed by a person in a state of intoxication, resulting in the death of three persons by negligence").
The case materials have already been transferred to the Irkutsk District Court for consideration on the merits, IrkutskMedia news agency writes, citing information from the Baikal-Angarsk Transport Prosecutor's Office. According to the Criminal Code, the skipper faces from eight to 15 years in prison.
