US President Donald Trump said on May 15 that a decision on the potential sale of American weapons to Taiwan would be made soon after he held talks about it with the island's leaders.

"I will make a decision soon enough. I need to talk to the person who runs Taiwan," he said in a video posted by journalists from Republic TV on his Instagram page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

On the same day, Trump said that the President of the People's Republic of China (PRC), Xi Jinping, often mentioned Taiwan during the talks. According to the head of the White House, the parties managed to reach an understanding on this issue.

Xinhua news agency reported a day earlier that the leader of the People's Republic of China (PRC), during a conversation with his American counterpart, called the issue of Taiwan "the most important" for Beijing. He explained that if the American and Chinese sides implement a sound relationship within this framework, their relationship will remain "generally stable."

On May 15, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called the relations between his country and the United States the most difficult in the world. In his opinion, no one can bear the consequences of a potential conflict between the parties. The Chinese Foreign Minister added that the diplomacy of Xi Jinping and Trump is a "guiding star" in building an interstate dialogue. At the same time, the American president said that his delegation and representatives of the Chinese side had managed to reach important agreements during his official visit to Beijing.
