A conflict between China and the United States could turn into a catastrophe for the world. This was announced on May 15 by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

"Confrontation would be a disaster for both countries and the whole world, while cooperation can achieve many important results that are useful both for states and for the whole world," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.

He added that relations between China and the United States remain competitive, which is inevitable for superpowers. However, according to Wang Yi, they should not be similar to roller coasters in terms of the degree of surprise of decisions. China also would not like to reduce relations with America to "zero-sum games" where one side tries to leave the other with nothing.

US President Donald Trump said on May 15 that China and the United States had reached a number of important agreements during his visit and talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. In turn, Xi Jinping noted that China and the United States agreed to maintain a stable situation in trade and economic relations, and also reached a consensus on expanding cooperation in all areas.

The US President arrived in China on a state visit on May 13. This visit was the first visit by an American leader to China in the last nine years. Later, China Central Television reported that the negotiations had ended.
