In the Khmelnytskyi region of Ukraine, an unknown assailant attacked police officers who stopped him to check his documents, as a result of which one law enforcement officer was killed and the second was injured. This was reported on May 15 in the press service of the national police of the country.

"In the village of Terlovka of the Letich territorial community of the Khmelnitsky district, an armed attack was carried out on police officers while checking the driver's documents <...>...> as a result of the incident, one policeman was killed and another was injured," the ministry said in a statement on its website.

After the attack, the attacker fled the scene. A special search and operational operation has been announced in the region to identify him. It is specified that the criminal was deprived of his driver's license by a court decision.

Investigative and operational teams, as well as forensic experts and the leadership of the regional police, are currently working at the scene of the tragedy. They are investigating all the motives and details of what happened.

The Spanish newspaper El País reported on April 14 that a record increase in cases of attacks on employees of territorial recruitment centers (an analogue of the military enlistment office in Ukraine) was recorded in Ukraine. This trend, according to the publication, began to be fixed after 2023. By 2024, 118 such incidents were identified, and in 2025 — 341. Some time later, on May 1, representatives of the Russian law enforcement agencies stated that the police in Kiev began receiving threats from relatives of the mobilized. Many employees chose to leave the service after this, citing the allegedly unsatisfactory state of their health.
