Volga models were asked to be included in the list of cars for taxis
Cars of the revived Volga brand were proposed to be included in the list of cars allowed to work in a taxi. The initiative was initiated by the All-Russian Association of Passengers, which prepared a letter addressed to Anton Alikhanov, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reported on May 15.
Public figures in their appeal indicated that if Volga cars are included in the list, the manufacturer will be more motivated to increase the level of localization, which is still at a low level. Ilya Zotov, Chairman of the association, noted that Volga cars are produced on the basis of well-known models of the Chinese company Geely. He said that this year the company is already planning to paint the body on its own.
According to Zotov, the inclusion of the Volga in the list of taxi cars would mean greater variability in the choice for passengers, since there are few cars in the current list in the comfort and comfort plus classes, and the Volga could occupy this niche. He recalled that traditionally, Volga Nizhny Novgorod-made cars were massively represented in taxis in Russia and were particularly popular with the population.
The Volga model range includes the C50 sedan and the K40 and K50 crossovers. All three are scheduled to go on sale this summer, and they will be manufactured at a plant in Nizhny Novgorod.
On March 4, the Ministry of Industry and Trade published a list of domestically produced cars that fall under the approved parameters of the law on taxi localization. The ministry recalled that this list suggests the possibility of regular updates, taking into account models that will be produced in Russia under the SPIC with commitments to deepen localization.
