The militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have returned several prisoners of war in critical condition to the Russian side. This was announced on May 15 by Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Rodion Miroshnik.

"Several people were handed over to us in critical condition on the verge of life and death," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Miroshnik noted that during the last exchange, Russia received dozens of amputees. Currently, doctors are trying to figure out how this happened, but "it looks significant when several dozen military personnel who are returning from the exchange are seriously injured and maimed," the ambassador stressed.

Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, said on April 2 that Ukrainian militants tortured captured Russian servicemen by beating them with sticks, connecting wires with electricity to their limbs and releasing dogs. He stressed that the Ukrainian militants committed these crimes for their own pleasure.

During the special military operation, the Office of the Russian Ombudsman was able to determine the fate of more than 9,000 servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. At the same time, in the materials prepared for the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, it appeared that 3.7 thousand Russian fighters had already been returned within the designated period.

The biggest joy, according to the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia Tatyana Moskalkova, was the return of 165 people from the Kursk region. The exchange negotiations started with large parties, but then their number decreased, and each round of negotiations was very difficult.
