Merz cancelled his visit to Slovakia due to Fico's visit to Moscow on May 9
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz canceled his visit to Slovakia scheduled for May 29 due to Prime Minister Robert Fico's visit to Moscow on May 9. This was announced on May 14 by former Slovak Foreign Minister and vice chairman of the Progressive Slovakia party Ivan Korchok.
"Nothing will come of the announced visit of the Federal Chancellor to Slovakia. This was the final decision for us," the Dennikn publication quotes him as saying.
It is noted that Merz's trip to Slovakia "is unlikely to bring any results." This year, Fico became the only politician from the European Union (EU) who visited Russia on the occasion of the anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War.
