The prevalence rate of Alzheimer's disease in Russia is one in a thousand people. This was announced by Academician Vladimir Chekhonin, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), at an online meeting of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences "Life Sciences" on Thursday, May 14.

He said that the highest prevalence of Alzheimer's disease is observed in socially developed countries such as Germany, Italy and Japan, where the number reaches three people per thousand population.

"The lowest number is in undeveloped countries, where the number is about one case per 10,000 people, that is, almost 30 times less," the Moscow City News agency quoted Chekhonin as saying.

He added that the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease directly depends on the average life expectancy of the population in the country.
