The State Duma appreciated Rutte's idea to oblige NATO countries to allocate money to Ukraine

The idea of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to oblige the countries of the alliance to annually allocate funds in the amount of 0.25% of their annual GDP to support Ukraine will fail. Alexey Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, expressed this opinion on Thursday, May 14.

The deputy pointed out that today, what Rutte said is about 10% of the investments that the Americans demanded from all members of the North Atlantic Alliance of their investments in the maintenance of NATO.

"And not everyone today is even ready to contribute 3%, but 5% is required. This is one of the reasons why the Americans are raising the issue of their withdrawal from this alliance — they do not want to contain other countries," Chepa explained in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

According to the parliamentarian, if NATO wants to continue giving money to support Ukraine, it means that the West sees a further development of the conflict. He assumed that they wanted to freeze him and then somehow resuscitate him.

At the same time, the deputy believes that given the development of the scandal surrounding the former head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, Andrei Ermak, Rutte's idea will fail.

Earlier, on May 12, it became known that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte intends to force the countries of the bloc to allocate part of their GDP to help Ukraine.

He called on the allies to allocate 0.25% of GDP to help Ukraine, in an effort to ease growing tensions within the alliance over aid to Kiev. The relevant initiative, as specified, not only does not find support from a number of European states, including Britain and France, but also meets with clear resistance among them.

A member of the European Parliament from Poland, Eva Zajonchkowska-Gernik, said on May 13 that Warsaw should stop financing Kiev, RT reports. She said that her country needs to stop taking on debts for the sake of another corrupt state and start respecting itself again.
