The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the explosive growth of drug production in Ukraine

In Ukraine, after the start of Russia's special military operation (SVO), there has been an explosive increase in the production of synthetic drugs since 2022. This was stated on May 14 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky during a round table discussion on the threat of the spread of crime and drugs from Ukrainian territory.

"In the conditions of free trade in Ukraine, there is an explosive increase in the production of synthetic drugs, in particular, cathinone and illegal methadone. These substances are used both to cover the growing domestic discharge and for export purposes," he said.

The diplomat stated that Ukraine has become a major center for the production of synthetic drugs, as well as a transshipment point for the smuggling of opiates from Afghanistan.

"Ukraine has become a haven for large drug cartels, which are characterized by a high level of organization, an extensive structure and significant financial resources. Another distinctive feature of them is their close and mutually beneficial ties with the Ukrainian authorities," Lubinsky said.

It was noted that the members of the group were engaged in the supply, packaging and distribution of drugs on the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). In addition, they promoted addiction among the youth of the republic.

A local resident rescued from Krasnoarmeysk in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) on May 14 said that most of the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) who were stationed in the city were taking drugs. After eating some "sweets", the military became aggressive and clashed with civilians, situations often ended with shooting.
