Pope Leo XIV said that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and investments in high-tech weapons are leading the world to destruction. This was reported by The Independent newspaper.

"Today, the church offers everyone a treasure trove of its social teachings in response to the next industrial revolution and the development of artificial intelligence, which pose new challenges to the protection of human dignity, justice and work," the pontiff said.

The Pope stressed that the development of AI must be controlled so that technology does not relieve people of responsibility for their own decisions and does not exacerbate the consequences of armed conflicts. As examples, he cited the situation in Ukraine, the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian territories, Lebanon and Iran, saying that modern wars demonstrate the inhumane relationship between technology and armed conflict.

In addition, Leo XIV criticized the growth of military spending in Europe, noting that the increase in weapons costs is to the detriment of education and healthcare systems. According to the pontiff, such processes contribute to the enrichment of elites to the detriment of the public good.

American actress Demi Moore spoke about AI in the film industry on May 13 during the jury's press conference at the Cannes Film Festival. According to her, countering AI is a losing strategy, and Hollywood should look for ways to interact with the new technology.
