Chagall's "Lamb" to be auctioned in Moscow for $2 million

A collection of Russian art with a total value of about 2 billion rubles will be put up for auction at the Moscow Auction House on May 24. The catalog includes works by Marc Chagall, Ilya Repin, Isaac Levitan, Pyotr Konchalovsky, Ivan Shishkin, Boris Kustodiev and other artists, the press service of the Moscow auction house told Izvestia on May 15.

The main lot will be the work of Marc Chagall "The Lamb. A scene from a Jewish village", created no later than 1929. The work will be presented at auction in Russia for the first time, its estimate is $ 2 million, or about 149 million rubles.

Other significant lots include the author's version of Vladimir Makovsky's painting "On the Boulevard" with an estimate of 95 million rubles, Pyotr Konchalovsky's "Landscape with a Train" for $220 thousand and Isaac Levitan's sketch "Clouds over a Field" worth 3.5 million rubles.

Ivan Shishkin's "Sandy Beach" for 24 million rubles, Boris Kustodiev's "On a Walk" for 13 million rubles and two works by Ilya Repin will also be presented at the auction. One of them, "Metropolitan Philip, expelled from the church by the oprichniks on November 8, 1568," is estimated at 65 million rubles.

In addition to the classics of Russian art, the catalog includes works by nonconformist artists, including Oscar Rabin, Dmitry Krasnopevtsev and Peter Belenka, as well as works by Ernst Neizvestny. The auction will be held online and face-to-face in Moscow on May 24.

On March 1, the Moscow Auction House held the Important Spring Sale, where works worth a total of 1 billion rubles were presented. It was noted that one of the lots was Isaac Levitan's landscape "Moonrise. The village." The painting belonged to the Soviet scientist, inventor of radio-controlled mines Vladimir Mitkevich, and was twice exhibited at the Tretyakov Gallery, as well as at the Russian Museum. Other significant lots include "Moonlit Night in Crimea" by Ivan Aivazovsky and "Behind the Sewing" by Valentin Serov.
