35 patients are awaiting the Russian cancer vaccine, of which the first five have already received the drug and are undergoing treatment. Veronika Skvortsova, head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA), told Izvestia about this on May 14.

"We started this process in March, and the first vaccinated person has already given six injections of the vaccine. For now, we need to say that the vaccine is well tolerated, it is safe, and it gives the immune response that is adequate, that is, the one we expected," she said.

According to the head of the FMBA, the vaccine is manufactured in a personalized manner, based on the genetic materials of each patient. Since December, there has been an online portal where patients can apply for inclusion in the vaccine waiting list. After that, for five working days, leading oncologists hold a consultation to understand whether there is a need for vaccination.

Skvortsova also clarified that so far we are talking only about intestinal cancer. And in order to judge the effectiveness of the vaccine, you need to observe the vaccinated person for at least a few months.

On April 1, the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation informed Izvestia that for the first time in Russia, a personalized domestic vaccine against cancer was used in clinical practice. The agency indicated that today it can be used as a therapy for the treatment of adult patients who have inoperable or metastatic melanoma of the skin.
