Hyundai has registered the Elantra and Hyundai Mighty brands in Russia

The South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai Motor Company registered the Elantra and Hyundai Mighty brands with Rospatent on May 12, according to the Rusprofile counterparty verification service, which was reviewed by Izvestia.

The exclusive right to trademarks will be valid until July 2034. Passenger cars and trucks, as well as parts for them, can be produced under brands.

Production of Hyundai cars in Russia was suspended in March 2022, with interruptions in the supply of components cited as the reason. Later, Hyundai sold the plant, owned by Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus LLC, to the Russian company AGR (formerly AGR. Art Finance) for 10 thousand rubles with the right to buy back within two years. In February 2026, it became known that Hyundai Motor Company had not bought out the company in St. Petersburg.

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus LLC was founded in March 2008, but after the sale in 2024 it was renamed Avtozavod Agr LLC. The plant's revenue in 2024 amounted to 29.4 billion rubles (2.7 billion in 2023), and the profit turned positive and increased one and a half times — from -16.5 million to 1.9 billion.

In January, it was noted that Hyundai Motor had prematurely abandoned the option of repurchasing its former Russian assets, without waiting for the deadline. As a result, one of the largest automotive complexes in St. Petersburg was completely taken over by a Russian company.
