Lavrov and the Indian Foreign Minister discussed the situation in the Middle East
During his working visit to India, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held talks with his Indian counterpart Subramaniam Jaishankar. This was reported on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry on May 14.
The foreign ministers discussed key topics on the bilateral agenda, as well as the schedule of upcoming contacts, including high-level contacts. The parties confirmed their firm commitment to further promote a particularly privileged strategic partnership, expand trade and economic cooperation, and consistently build stable monetary, financial, transport and logistics cooperation mechanisms.
The prospects of cooperation in the field of advanced technologies, energy and peaceful space were highly appreciated. The Ministers also considered it important to strengthen the multipolar architecture of interstate relations and the formation of a global economic system based on the principles of equality and justice.
During the meeting, Lavrov and Jaishankar stressed their mutual desire to continue coordinating approaches in multilateral formats at the UN, SCO, BRICS and G20 venues. The Foreign Ministers paid special attention to the situation in the Middle East, and also discussed other pressing issues of regional and global importance.
At a meeting with Lavrov on May 13, Jaishankar noted that cooperation between Russia and India has shown steady growth over the past few years. He also stressed the political cooperation between the two countries.
In December, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Russia in 2026 to participate in the XXIV annual Russian-Indian summit. He stated that Russia and India are working hand in hand in establishing a just multipolar world, and expressed confidence in the agreements reached with India.
